Why do the new generation lenses not have a curvature of BC 8.6? The latest contact lenses are so slippery that the significance of curvature (BC) has changed compared to before. The new lenses have such a smooth surface that if they had the common 8.6 curvature, they would simply fall out of the eye! Nowadays, curvature provides information more about the lens material rather than being a size number of the lens. Different curvatures of new lenses fit equally well on the same eye because they work in conjunction with other properties of the lens material. The world&#8217;s slipperiest lenses have a smaller curvature, but their fit is as good as the \u201cold\u201d lenses with an 8.6 curvature.
